Looking at the signalight led anchor light I see fins on the bottom of the unit. Those prob. are NOT needed due to heat from the led, but rather heat from the circuit powering the led, a sign that it is not very efficient. They look sharp but what is inside that nice package as far as electrical efficiency? OGM uses a very efficient design, I know that for a fact. Others are even more efficient.
Does it matter? Yes. With an inefficient light you need a larger solar panel and more batteries, and/or may only have a week or two to three of operation before you MUST charge the batteries, with an efficient design you may have several months. A few dollars more for a light that is more efficient can save hundreds of dollars in equipment cost to make up for poor performance. And if you find yourself without any way to make electric power or store much of it during a passage, having lights that are tops in efficiency can literally be a lifesaver. -Ken _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://www.liveaboardnow.org/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardnow.org/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
