Melinda, This is what I did:
Two boat length pieces of 1/2" three strand nylon (although I rarely let
out more than a half boat length - depends on the wind etc.) with an eye
splice and HD galvanized thimble on each, one large shackle to join
them, a smaller shackle to join the large shackle to the Devils Claw.
Use lanolin on all shackle pins and they will come apart when they are
worn out and rusted. Safety wire all pins if you like -do not use
stainless wire - it will cause the shackle to corrode faster. I used a
punch to deform the pin at he exit of the thread to keep it from
turning. I used 5/8" clear PVC hose (I understand there can be problem
using this material, but I did not experience any)for chafe guard with
small stuff to tie them off to the nylon.
Sometimes in shallow water and little wind the hook would disengage, at
those times I would just shorten the bridle to get the chain hook off
the bottom.

Hope this is of some help.
