Subject: [Liveaboard] Open Office was NOAA and the Cap'n and Maxsea

I'm glad to find out it isn't just me that has a problem with Cap'n in
some configurations. I got all those charts on a disc and couldn't
even get the disc to work.

I have had really good experiences with Cap'n over the last 10 years
and have moved it from one laptop to another, starting with a Toshiba
running Windows 98. But since my main laptop got wet about 2 years
ago, I have had nothing but trouble.

Based on recommendations from here, I tried Open Office. Because of
some kind of a problem with my main computer, I had to go back to the
original install, and while I backed up my C drive first, apparently I
didn't get all the codes reinstalled correctly because my MS Office
2007 no longer is 'authorized'. I can't get the program to accept any
kind of serial number code. I would be willing to buy it if I didn't
have to pay an arm and a leg, but getting MS Office that has Access
included without paying through the nose seems impossible.

This means that the Access data file with information on the hundreds
of other CSYs that I have been keeping for the last 10 years is
basically inaccessible to me, and I can't get Open Office to deal with
this database, other than to put it into a spreadsheet. I am about to
give up on ever accessing this information again.

I also need to be able to save Excel spreadsheets after I enter the
data. I have been unable to find anything out about how to handle
this program. The FAQs don't help much.
