If the grate were not recessed, that would solve the problem of not being able to center pans over the burners. However, it would not solve the problem of low heat output. Apparently my Force 10 burners each put out 4100BTU's. The link provided by Phillip took me to a Force 10 2 burner stove that has a large burner and a small burner, 4100 and 8200 BTU's respectively. I took the research a bit further and learned that Force 10 is an ENO subsidiary. I was recently on a friend's Dutch built boat--built in 1972--which had an ENO stove that really put out the heat. I assumed that ENO was either an old and probably defunct company or a European company whose products were not likely distributed in the US. Wrong on both counts.
Thanks to everyone for the input, and especially for the links provided by Phillip. IF the grate wer not recessed would it be acceptable? I had a single burner butane stove that was quite acceptable temp and cooking wise, but the way the 'grate't was it would not accept a smallish pot without it falling over since the legs of the grate were so far apart. I fixed that by putting a grate over the box it was in that was from a camping store couple of pad eyes on the back and I slipped the grate back 'piece' into the pad eye (really small ones) and the front piece was bent down to slip into a pair in the front to hold it on. Worked like a charm for my small pots and the larger souppout I used like a crockpot. I only used that method at anchor or the slip. cooking underway was smaller pots and used the recess to keep everying where it belongs on the stove and not my cabin sole. I have an alcohol stove with oven on my Oday 30 and will replace it asap the final sale paperwork is done. I am not sure I will be using the oven much. I have not had a house so to speak in 4.5 yrs with an oven and I have learned to do without since i don't eat bread much. The oven, for me, makes a nifty pot storage. <GG> On Fri, Oct 2, 2009 at 11:50 PM, Peter Kafer <[email protected]> wrote: Propane.
