Okay. Something is wrong with my setup. I tried to compile a previous version
of lives that I've compiled before but this time I get the same .la error. I'm
running the latest packages from 12.04. I'm not sure where my system went wrong
and I don't know how to fix it. I've searched on Google without any luck.

John, as I mentioned in an earlier post, the .la problem is not related to
LiVES directly. I think you need to upgrade your libtool package.
