I was able to get Chainsaw to load VFS files via smb, but...

I couldn't get the (current) WebStart version of Chainsaw to load the file (I
had to use the trunk versions of Chainsaw/VFSLogFilePatternReceiver).

I had to modify the vfs core and sandbox jars:

- build vfs trunk via mvn install (creates core and sandbox jars)
- jar xvf the vfs core jar
- jar xvf the vfs sandbox jar
- overwrite core/META-INF/providers.xml with the sandbox vfs-providers.xml (and
delete sandbox vfs-providers.xml)
- re-jar vfs core and vfs sandbox, and copy both to .chainsaw/plugins

I was then able to get the file to load successfully..

Subject: Re: ChainSaw - accessing a file on a VM

Thanks again. Nearly there! :-) To nail the coffin of this problem, I'd
appreciate receiving help re the following:
    "file not available - will try again in 10 seconds" message is appearing
in the chainsaw-log.
Following is my configuration and I'll appreciate this final help (at least
re this issue for now!):

*chainsaw.xml:*
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<!DOCTYPE log4j:configuration >
<log4j:configuration xmlns:log4j="http://jakarta.apache.org/log4j/";
debug="true">
    <appender name="A2" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender">
        <layout class="org.apache.log4j.SimpleLayout"/>
    </appender>

   <plugin name="VFSLogFilePatternReceiverWithUserInfoPrompt"
class="org.apache.log4j.chainsaw.vfs.VFSLogFilePatternReceiver">
     <param name="fileURL" value="smb://192.168.1.100/log/ekeeper.log"/>
     <param name="timestampFormat" value="yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss,SSS"/>
     <param name="logFormat" value="TIMESTAMP [THREAD] LEVEL LOGGER
(FILE:LINE) - MESSAGE"/>
     <param name="name" value="sampleLogFilePatternReceiver"/>
     <param name="promptForUserInfo" value="true"/>
     <param name="tailing" value="true"/>
   </plugin>
    <root>
        <level value="DEBUG"/>
    </root>
</log4j:configuration>

Following files in my *..\.chainsaw\plugins *directory:
   commons-logging-1.1.1.jar
   commons-vfs-1.0.jar
   jcifs-1.2.25b.jar
   log4j-chainsaw-vfs.jar

also I have the
   "Ok to remove SecurityManager" option ticked in "*Application-wide
Preferences*".

Thanks again,
Doost
