Let me put my extreme programming hat on. You're doing work for no
particular reason? You can predict the future? It's not going to turn
out how you think it is, so do the simplest thing possible that could
work. Worry about future changes in the future.
With my Perl hat on: use an object.
With my Buffy hat on: Does Buffy do some research on the demons she
faces? Yes, but she often reaches a point where she decides that they
can't predict what's gonna happen, so she just goes to kick some ass.
