Hey, use of NE is deprecated in modern Perls :) (The "hidden, undocumented commands" included for Fortran compatibility, as far as I can see. Ranks in the Perl arcana along with ignoring lines beginning with dot and some letters -- known mostly to those who have grovelled in the sources.)
