I'm running an AMD Athlon AXIA 1GHz chip happily at 1.333GHz on an ABIT
KT7A, but had some issues getting it stable (which it has been now for many
months using Win2K). Here's my tuppence worth:

- Get a decent heatsink (a question of religious proportions). I'm using a
Thermoengine job with a 7500rpm fan, from overclockers.co.uk (see also
Telemart, IIRC). Check out the various reviews on the web WRT to heatsink
efficiency etc.

- Check your motherboard supplier for a BIOS update: an earlier version of
my BIOS caused the CPU to run cool (mid twenty degrees) when 'idle', rising
rapidly to the high forties under load. The more recent BIOSes maintain a
steady temperature (low forties, IIRC), which is probably better in terms of
wear and tear.

- Check your graphics card isn't the problem - my olde Matrox Millennium
G200 AGP seemed to suffer from heat - solution: cut a hole in the case and
mount a fan blowing air over it (and other cards).

Andrew.
