Marketing. I'm am constantly surprised by how easily J Q Public can be lead into parting money for overpriced sparkling baubles. <troll>Hey it worked for the original iMac.</troll> > Playstation 2 is 'console champion' Yes. And that's a guide to quality. How much it sells. Like, Betamax. And Popstars. The best selling game last year was 'Who wants to be a millionaire' which was dreadful, even within the remit of the concept. Much as I'd love trust the drooling, hackett clad, post pub public who shell out year after year for minute FIFA updates and the fad driven whimsy of ADD ridden rug rats I fear that, as yet, I'll have to make my own mind up rather than just be told what's best by Trevor "fcuking cnut" Beattie. > The games console wars are over with Sony's Playstation 2 emerging > victorious, according to the hi-tech market research firm In-Stat/MDR. Define victorious. Sony, as far as I know, lose money on every console they sell. They make money on games. People don't tend to buy that many games. Ignoring the real world for the moment *my* two criteria for whether a console is 'good' or not are 1) Is it powerful? The answer being, err, no. Not really. 2) Does it have good games? Again. No not really. There are probably 10 games I *might* buy for the PS2 but realistically more like 5 or 6 (GTA3, SSX Tricky, Jax and Daxter, Frequency, ICO[0]). 2 years after launch I don't consider that good going.
