We do it. I used LPRng as Server for a long time for different client systems. Since more and more users have Linux-desktops I set up a CUPS-server on another machine, because so I do not have to distribute my printcap-file to every new Linux-box. CUPS sends them its list of printers as part of the protocol together with the printer descriptions. The CUPS-server gets all printjobs from the desktops and forwards them to the LPRng-server. I filter the jobs (text to postscript) on the CUPS-server and do the rest (mostly accounting) on the LPRng side. The only problem was, that CUPS did not tell me the host where the job was coming from. That's why I changed the code for the backend lpd a bit. If you want my patch mail me directly. regards Herbert Engelmann - -- H.
