Hi I read the chapter and apparently I had missed the details of the init kit. However, the kernel that I downloaded 2.4.16 seems to be a little buggy as even the default config will not compile (or else Mandrake pulled a redhat and provided a complier in 8.0 that is broken beyond recognition). I finally got a kernel tat would not even boot past the uncompressing kernel.
Regardless, I finally got my serial mouse to work with the delivered 3.0 kernel. It seems that the serial driver was not loaded. I did a insmod serial and it worked fine. From the investigation I did, it looks like the /dev/ttyS0 X_MOUSE_DEVICE has to be set in the work station setting, not the default. It could also have been a loose connection, but I don't think so. Can anyone verify that the device setting will not work in the default section for serial mice?
