Hans is right, VNC does require to you run under a vnc server.  VNC is
excellent for training situations, where you know beforehand that you're
going to need it.  However, it won't let you "take over" an existing
session on a regular desktop.

Look at www.tridia.com.  They may have something; we used to use a very
old version of their software to take over dumb terminal sessions, and
it's possible they've added X sessions to their bag of tricks.
