I'm a little late in commenting about this. But I don't believe you actually save CALS by using a linux client. MS Licenses Terminal Server both with Terminal Server CALS and with desktop CALS.
If you have a Pre-Win2k Desktop (95,98,ME) or non-MS Desktop you need to purchase a Windows 2000 license for each device as well as a Terminal Server CAL. They appear to have done away with the Terminal Server CAL activation stuff (they're back on the honor system), but before if you connected to a TS Server then the server itself would track and how what os you were coming from and lock you out if you exceeded your licenses. Just FYI in case the BSA stops by for an audit. - Michael Buckbee -----Original Message----- From: Watson, Keith [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, August 19, 2002 3:59 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [Ltsp-discuss] automatic logins with ltsp Hello all, I would be very interested in any answers to this question as well, as I have been trying to do this exact same thing. I know and understand that it seems a bit odd to want to use LTS to boot to a Winblows Terminal Server, but it saves CALS and we are interested in migrating our users slowly to the Linux desktop. We are a production facility and most of our users are not literate when it comes to computers. Changing them overnight would be a major mistake. Is there an answer here? I have a Win2k TS running to accept rdesktop clients. I have a Suse8.0 linux box that is running ltsp. I have a diskless client that gets the image just fine and will allow me to run an x windows session. I added the rdesktop command to the .bashrc file and when I log into linux from the thinclient it runs rdesktop just fine. What I am trying to do is have the diskless workstation boot from the linux server and "auto login" and run the rdesktop command. any help would be appreciated. I tried running it with kdm with kdm's AutoLoginEnabled=true in the kdmrc file but that only allows my linux server to auto login. Trying to get just the client to do it. ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by: OSDN - Tired of that same old cell phone?
