Here are the facts:

tried 2 different PCI non-integrated NIC's
3c905b-txm and 3c905c-tpo

Downloaded etherboot 5.1.x and the etherboot 5.0.x versions

determinied the correct PCI id's using lspci -n and cat /proc/pci

re-compiled my own .lzrom (5.0.x) and .zrom (5.1.x) images for both of the
cards.
with the 3c905b fix incorported.

able to read, erase and program both the 3c905c and 3c905b cards using
cromutil/bromutil and vortex-diag.

Vortex-diag shows correct checksum for Cyclone (3c905b)
but says no bios rom present.
Vortex-diag on the 3c905c shows incorrect checksum but sees the bios

when I run vortex-diag -ee it displays the bios contents for both cards and
the last hexdump shows the etherboot version.

set the pc bios to "network boot" as first boot

When I boot the pc it just zooms past the NIC's to the harddrive....

What could I possibly be missing? IS it these gateway pc's? It seems that I
hava done everything possible to make this work....

maybe if someone sent me their 3c905b and 3c905c-tpo images I can try
those....

thanks again
