ok, now we have somehow a progress: I removed the & after icewm and now the login works, I get an icewm window and can work on it. To be clear, here is the working xsession:


~/.xsession
   #!/bin/sh
   /usr/bin/icewm

Lesson learned: If iceWM ist started directly from xdm, and no GNOME and gdm is installed, do NOT use this ampersand (&) after calling icewm.

I do not understand why, so if someone can explain, pls. go on.

BUT: icewm eats up a lot of CPU-time - approx 99% - well, this is something for the iceWM list I think, but if someone has an idea, pls. let me know.

Thanks so far for the many suggestions and help we got from this list, you helped a lot to make Internetaccess available to pupils in Kinshasa. Ingo.
