Amit-
  I bet teh problem is going to be a missing symlink. Do an 'ls -l'
in the /opt/ltsp/i386 directory it should look like this:

drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Oct 27 16:39 bin/
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jul 12 14:07 dev/
drwxr-xr-x    6 root     root         4096 Nov  1 11:48 etc/
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jul 12 14:07 home/
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Oct 27 16:39 include/
drwxr-xr-x    4 root     root         4096 Nov  1 11:31 lib/
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jul 12 15:17 libexec/
drwxr-xr-x    3 root     root         4096 Oct 27 16:39 man/
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            8 Oct 27 16:39 mnt -> /tmp/mnt
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jul 12 14:07 oldroot/
drwxr-xr-x    3 root     root         4096 Jul 12 15:14 opt/
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jul 12 14:07 proc/
drwxr-xr-x    3 root     root         4096 Oct 31 22:45 root/
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Oct 27 16:39 sbin/
drwxr-xr-x    5 root     root         4096 Oct 27 16:39 share/
drwxr-xr-x    2 root     root         4096 Jul 13 01:07 tmp/
drwxr-xr-x   13 root     root         4096 Nov  1 11:32 usr/
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            8 Nov  1 11:57 var -> /tmp/var

Notice the two symlinks on mnt and var? They both need to be there. If
you are missing the var link create and NIS + ssh should start to
work. There is a bug in LTSP 4.1 and it does not create the symlink
when the tree is created. This should solve your problem.

James-
  I found this solution in an email of yours to the list back in
January. The bug is still in the current LTSP releases. Can we get
this fix added to the LTSP-4.1 install page?
