In an internet cafe where LTSP is installed, I saw that firefox can use up quite a big amount of RAM. Personally, I'd allocate 64MB per client in this case. More RAM would be even better. I HIGHLY suggest that you procure a server which can accomodate loads of RAM. This way, if you later found out that you have installed too little amount of RAM, you can always upgrade it easily. >> Will there be any performance issues If I run Firefox from the server? >> Or should I run it as a local app?> >I think Firefox is light enough to be run from server. Except on certain cases - example: on Flash-laden webpages, Firefox can hog quite a lot of CPU time. Of course this is not Firefox's fault - IE will behave the same. But the point is - it CAN hog the CPU. You'll need to check the output of "top" from time to time, and "renice" them as necessary. >> I am planning to run the LTSP server as virtual machine under VMWare >> ESX. Has anyone done this? I've ran quite a few, and it was ok actually. Important: You'll need to ensure that the VMware installation is really rock solid. I've noticed that on certain Linux distros & hardware combination, VMware can crash without warning. It's just gone from the screen, bringing down the VMs with it. While on others (like Suse Enterprise & HP DL servers), you can put tremendous load on the VMs, and it will handle them gracefully.
