I disagree.  Depending on your usage, It could be kinda silly to 
downgrade all your apps just for flash and java. First of all, you can 
get flash and java working fairly painlessly on 64 bit systems by 
installing 32 bit libraries. see 
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FirefoxAMD64FlashJava.  There are 
problems with this, but I think it's definitely better than doing a 
reinstall.

Also, I think you have the right idea by getting firefox to run locally 
if your thin clients have the power and you can figure out the 
implementation issues.  Keep us posted of any progress.

Yes, that does make a pretty big difference.
