Dumping stuff into a "root directory" isn't more organized than putting it into
a subdirectory under that root directory.  Otherwise, why do we have
subdirectories?  (Just MHO, of course.)

If you insist on doing this, "ln -s /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf /opt/ltsp"
will probably get you where you're going.  It doesn't seem that much more
organized to me, though.
