We're trying to come up with a test program, or programs, that quantitatively show the dramatic difference between the performance when the application is run on an LTSP terminal vs when run on the same machine as a full Linux workstation, running the same application on the LTSP server via ssh -X. We're making some progress, but it's proving to be pretty interesting. We're not so sure it's a graphics problem. It looks like it may be a networking issue. I'll explain more about that later. One thing that would be helpful would be if people would post in a reasonable amount of detail what applications, and especially with in-house applications, what *type* of applications they are experiencing difficulties with. What exactly are you all having problems with? Not all Java applications have these performance issues; and these problems are not limited just to Java applications. Our working theory is that once we have a test program, or programs, then we can give them to the LTSP developers. We can run wireshark on them, and work together to find out exactly what's going on, and hopefully fix it. Sound reasonable? So, if some of you who are having problems can give us some more detailed information on exactly what you are having problems with, that would be very helpful, and appreciated! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Open Source Business Conference (OSBC), March 24-25, 2009, San Francisco, CA -OSBC tackles the biggest issue in open source: Open Sourcing the Enterprise -Strategies to boost innovation and cut costs with open source participation -Receive a $600 discount off the registration fee with the source code: SFAD http://p.sf.net/sfu/XcvMzF8H _____________________________________________________________________ Ltsp-discuss mailing list.
