Spaces and tabs around the "=" are fine. Your snippet looks good
to me.

If your clients have very old VGA cards with too little RAM for
1280x1024 at 24 BPP, you might need to add X_COLOR_DEPTH = 16 or
some such to lts.conf.

Maybe you could log into the client itself and look at
/var/run/ltsp-xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.*.log
