I experienced a similar problem while installing a fresh SuSE 9.1 on may 
laptop mid this year. Saw a bit of it on some upgrades from 8.2, but not all 
machines were affected. 

You probably want to look out for this (*bug*) when doing your installation 
(if 9.1). This problem caused my 'sshd' daemon to fail upon start.
