First of all, I'm an Exim fanatic - but running Sendmail is not such a problem if you are really good at it - Geert Jan De Groot (co-author of rfc1918 among other things) runs it on his laptop here but the said version is way too old... I mean this version.. http://www.sendmail.org/8.12.11.html was released beginning of last year, and the current version is 8.13.4. Given the remote root exploits I've seen over the years for sendmail...really... As an afterthought, probably the complexity of configuring sendmail is the reason UTL is finding it hard to maintain their mail servers. > > Noah > > > Spam filters aren't any good if they keep out even > > legitimate mail. > > > > Joseph > > > > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > > > From: Mark Tinka <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > > To: [email protected] > > > Date: Fri, 22 Apr 2005 12:57:05 +0200 > > > Subject: Re: [LUG] UTL Online Sys Engineer > > > > > > On Friday 22 April 2005 11:51, Gimei Nagimesi wrote: > > > > <friendlyfire>There would be some UTL'ers on this > > > > list but they have the same problem u have...their > > > > spam rules are so tight they can't reach each other > > > > or us.</friendlyfire> > > > > > > It wasn't my intention to start a *bash_shell'ing* > > > session :), but since I appear not to be getting any > > > help, here goes: > > > > > > I always seem to have intermittent problems when > > > sending mail to BOU - been going on for the past 6 to > > > 8 months: > > > > > > 2005-04-20 16:47:53 1DOEYP-0000SX-NI > > > mail2.utlonline.co.ug [81.199.21.120]: Connection > > > timed out > > > 2005-04-20 16:47:53 1DOEYP-0000SX-NI == > > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> R=dnslookup > > > T=remote_smtp defer (110): Connection timed out > > > 2005-04-20 16:47:53 End queue run: pid=8738 > > > > > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> telnet mail2.utlonline.co.ug 25 > > > Trying 81.199.21.120... > > > > > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~> telnet mail1.utlonline.co.ug 25 > > > Trying 81.199.21.114... > > > Connected to mail1.utlonline.co.ug. > > > Escape character is '^]'. > > > 220 Welcome+to+Uganda+telecom+Mail+Server ESMTP > > > > > > Sometimes it works, other times it fails, then > > > recovers (backs up to secondary MX) and works, and > > > today, well... > > > > > > Mark. > > > > _______________________________________________ > > LUG mailing list > > [email protected] > > http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug > > %LUG is generously hosted by INFOCOM > > http://www.infocom.co.ug/ _______________________________________________ LUG mailing list [email protected] http://kym.net/mailman/listinfo/lug %LUG is generously hosted by INFOCOM http://www.infocom.co.ug/
