Get a new laptop :) - just kidding. What GUI/Window manager do you want to run? Of course, KDE and GNOME are more than likely out of reach for you, regardless of what UNIX/Linux distro you choose. You could go with something light, like fvwm - don't use it much, but it feels pretty light.
