Thanks for your opinion. I am trying to understand your point of view,Earnest, but I am of the obstinate type who never say never.

And this is a very, very good thing. (Einstein, Charles Parsons,
Newton, etc.. must have had the same zeal).

Of course starting with Ubuntu would be fine and probably easier,
but I am not looking for an easy way out. Ubuntu is a modifiation
of Debian. I will probably be retracing the steps of Ubuntu, but so
what? To me it is a challenge to be able to even do that. I would
rejoice at having achieved it or wouldn't you?

I would (if i had lots of coding time) ;)

I want to feel the thrill and the confidence that I can also do
what others have done and in the process maybe bring about a few
innovations too.

OK Chris, i rest my case. In any case, i think dons like you are the best examples to your students. (You might have missed a thread here that seriously lambasted makerere dons).
