You're in luck, Cisco have a recertification program for
second-hand kit... no, seriously :-).

Again, this is all if you want to be legal...

If you buy second-hand hardware, Cisco will recertify it for
you and put it under contract, should you wish to do so.
However, it helps to be up-to-date with the EoS/EoL
(End-of-Sale/End-of-Life) bulletins on their various
products, as EoL means there would not be any further
hardware or software support offered by TAC to the affected
kit.

Cisco also have a Remarket program, where they authorize
specific dealers to sell what they call re-marketed
hardware. This is also pre-owned kit, but it's Cisco
recognizing the second-hand market. SMARTnet contracts are
allowed here too.

You won't believe how many non-genuine Cisco parts are on
the market.

One thing you need to remember is that SMARTnet isn't the
only support you can get for your Cisco hardware.
Authorized Cisco partners (especially their Tier 1
partners) also provide their own support contracts which,
if you have the cash, can be even more desireable than
SMARTnet.

Cheers,

Mark.
