I really sympathize with you. I strongly believe that if serial numbers of such 
products were maintained in some shared database, along with details of owners, 
this would in a way discourage sales of stolen equipment - for instance, if 
Elite could introduce Advantage Cards just like most supermarkets do, this 
would be a good idea. This would apply to any serialized equipment. I believe 
this would ease tractability and make it a little hard for petty thieves...
