Richard, Thanks and I believe creating and running such kind of a data base here Could help solve alot of this theft cases.
Most of the main Apple distributors do register products when purchasing them but I was surprised when I was purchasing the replacement for my MacBook Pro from Garden city, it was like buying bread from a supermarket. I mean this guys even didn't care to put my initials along side the said purchase documents. It's was amazingly stupid. Sent from my iPhone On Sep 27, 2011, at 8:58 PM, "Richard B. I strongly believe that if serial numbers of such products were maintained in some shared database, along with details of owners, this would in a way discourage sales of stolen equipment - for instance, if Elite could introduce Advantage Cards just like most supermarkets do, this would be a good idea. This would apply to any serialized equipment. I believe this would ease tractability and make it a little hard for petty thieves... I lost a MacBook Pro a few weeks ago within Kampala moaned it for weeks, got a new one with the help of LUG. Two days ago I found it on display on Kampala Rd. I had the original receipts from the Apple Store and police report in my bag. It made it easier for me. We just need to help each other and hope for the best!
