Wilson, One of the other reasons we don't use facebook for the LUG is http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2010/nov/22/tim-berners-lee-facebook
Linux is about openness and choice. Facebook isn't necessarily although things have changed a tiny bit since this was written. How ever as a social tool it is hard to beat, especially when your a campus student with a active love life. ;-) We are eventually looking to add more social hooks into the site, so that person to person chatting is allowed but for the moment we are getting the basic right. For example i know of some people who can live without other sites but facebook. so why not set up camp there. so now someone can come on facebook to probably chat with his girlfriend and also share/get linux knowledge all in one place. My thoughts.... On Fri, Oct 14, 2011 at 11:36 AM, Simon Vass < [email protected] > wrote: Wilson, Indeed I had not. Could you not also use the linux.or.ug website and encourage local content? Rather than making Mr Zuckerberg richer? That being said I will check it out. Great to see you got going. Simon, the LUG Mak chapter is up and running...on facebook. So far the group now has 100 members so far and its not dormant and we try to keep it as active and interactive. For those of you interested if your ever around facebook check out http://www.facebook.com/groups/lugmakchapter . Though we I must admit we could be lagging behind alittle in marketing it.. may be thats why Ancel hasnt heard about it but its got a number of third years.
