Dear All,I don't know whether Downing was misquoted, but the ascription of the "Sheepes and Catts gutte" quote to Margaret Board is incorrect. It is found in the Burwell lute tutor (c.1670), which was almost certainly copied by Mary Burwell from an anonymous source, probably her teacher.
