     I took one of these on vacation and kept up my classical guitar
     chops. I've also used it plugged into an amp for wedding gigs.
     People think it looks cool, too. There are electric ouds and even
     gambas nowadays as well. No such option for the lute...
     I have a few design ideas but no wood working ability at all. If

      That's close to my ideal.  My present cases are mostly
      made of wood and
      significantly heavy and hard, not something I would want to
      strap on my
      back.  A light-weight soft padded case on my back would
      be a big
      improvement.
