Why really? So the name can't be used with LaTeX, but it is the name
the user choose for his file. We could issue a warning if the name is
not LaTeX conforming.

IMHO this is _only_ a tmp name.

We have seen how simple changes, believed to make no changes, has
shown to create small havoc.
