Since you are online, Peter:

How difficult would it be to make use of precompiled headers
with cmake/win?

Can't you just abuse config.h for that?
That's included in every .C file anyway...

Ah, here is the official request. ;)

First: Is it worth the effort? How big is the speedup?

How can I tell?

Compiling LyX right now is dead slow even with MSVC++.
It should be _much_ faster.

Second: Was there not another endless discussion about
precompiled headers between Po and Lars?

The discussion was about intrusive changes to the code.
I can not see ny need for such as pch requires (at most)
one file included at the beginning of each compilation
unit and we already have that (config.h) - and you have
complete control over its contents.

Is it now possible with scons?

I don't know. If scons is able to produce reasonable
.vcproj, somebody should tell so and I'll use it (in
the case I'd work under Windows again, that is)

Third: I don't have any experience with precompiled headers
and cmake, so I will have to investigate this first.

There is no deadline...
