Actually, it isn't that great, since it covers the real problem, and also I discovered that the toolbar _position_ is still wrong if you try to show the affected toolbar (fixed size delimiters in my case). So I inverstigated further and came up with the attached, which I think pinpoints the real issue (a missing toolbar initialization) and fixes the remaining problems for me.
