Hi Bruce,

Please always respond to the list, not to me personally. The people on
the list know much more than I do, especially about this type of issue.

Yes, this is all great information. Thank you for investigating. It
would be useful to figure out why 2.1.4 works for you and 2.2.0rc1 does
not.

Can you run the command "ldd" on the compiled 2.1.4 binary and the
2.2.0rc1 binary? Any differences?

Also, do you see the same problem with cross-references? We have a
separate bug that has to do with cross-references. I would be surprised
if it's related, but who knows?

Are you familiar with the concept of a git bisect?

Finally, something is strange with quoting for your emails. When you
replied, it did not put my email indented with ">". it is thus hard to
see above what I wrote and what you wrote. If you don't mind changing
whatever option (look for "quoting" options), that would be appreciated.
