Imho, that does not matter. As long as LyX is still running, and the source-view-pane is closed, you can trigger any LaTex output (to a viewer) you want. What’s bad is having “>View>Source Pane” open. And having pdflatex set there, within the sourceview-panel. If LyX opens source view pane – as on loading the file – it crashes. If you open the file with source view closed, cursor in the first line: fine. Ensure cursor is in the second line, open source-view: it crashes. Open it, with the first line active, select another view – within the source-pane –, like lua, it’s fine. Switch to the second line and boom – while source pane is open. mn
