I really don't know much about this, but couldn't we use some sort of ASCII encoding like base64 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base64). I think that's what some mail programs do (e.g., mutt) to add attachments. Perhaps there is a disadvantage that the file size is (much) bigger than using a non-ASCII encoding? Scott
