You issue M-m exactly in the same place where you'd put the \nolimits in
LaTeX. Isn't that a reason? (Unless... can you put \nolimit _in_ fromnt of
\int in LaTeX?)

Give me some precice rule like "basline of exponent should be aligned to
the upper border of the \sum" or similar (or you may have a look
yourself, it's Metrics/draw in math_bigopinset.C)
