That with nested size changes the innermost takes priority?

It is not a _detail_. This is about being able to implement something
or not at all.

And S&R is a mess, works only on text (sometimes...) not on structures
etc, is unmaintainable etc whereas it could be a matter of 10 lines for
started (convert everything to a string and do a regexp replace on it)

Currently only the S&R-interface provided by LyX that deserves that name
is "Open the .lyx in a text editor, do your work, read back". And on that
base we are discussing UI issues?
