Hi Scott,

 Thank you very much. I used 2.0.8 instead of 2.1.3 and the problem is 
solved. 
 To answer your second question, yes, I  opened and compiled a small lyx 
file in 2.1.3, which was originally generated using 2.0.5. I was able to 
generate pdf from it. But the problem starts only when the file is 
large. Actually this file is a ieee paper having more than 8 figures and 
five tables.
  Thank you once again for helping me out. I was almost on the verge of 
blaming my new laptop (bought only yesterday) and was thinking of 
changing it. You saved my days. Will it be possible to fix this bug so 
that we can successfully port files from 2.0.5 to 2.1.3 ?
