Huh, three dashes just turn into an em dash for me. I'm using a Mac, but
that seems like that should be a standard interface thing. (I assume you're
using Windows given the "Ctl-l" hotkey you mention.)

I believe that in Windows 11 Win + Shift + <minus key> generates an
emdash (similar to Opt + Shift + <minus key> on the Mac). If that doesn't
work, you might try AutoHotKey or the like to set up a simple text
replacement.
