Actually, I'm using linux. LyX 2.4.0~RC3.
I am using 'Book w/extra fonts' as document class. I checked and with
standard document class, it --- works.
More likely this a problem with the document class. I will repost.
Thanks.

Trying for an em-dash. I tried '---' in my text and inside a

Huh, three dashes just turn into an em dash for me. I'm using a Mac,
but that seems like that should be a standard interface thing. (I
assume you're using Windows given the "Ctl-l" hotkey you mention.)
Is there a way to type this in the interface?
I believe that in Windows 11 Win + Shift + <minus key> generates an
emdash (similar to Opt + Shift + <minus key> on the Mac). If that
doesn't work, you might try AutoHotKey or the like to set up a simple
text replacement.
