Three dashes works fine for me (Linux Mint). Inside a TeX code insert,
they will look like three dashes in LyX, but when I export the document
using pdflatex I see an em-dash. (In plain text in LyX I see an em-dash.)
Can you post a small example document where three dashes is not
converted to an em-dash?
