1. Have a look at /usr/lib/ispell: how is the french dictionary called? french.hash or francais.hash, I suspect, not frenchb.hash. 2. Now open the preferences dialog in LyX (edit->preferences), go to the tab Language->Spellchecker, check the checkbox "use alternative language" and type the name of the dictionary (without the extension) into the input field (e.g. "french"). Regards, Jürgen (you are using the document language style frenchb.sty, and LyX is guessing that this is also the name of the spellchecking dictionary, which is wrong).
