This is interesting: I just upgraded from 1.4.1 to 1.4.2 (for no
particular reason), and now I have a mix of the "classic" and "default"
interfaces. The menu structure is the way it was prior to 1.4.x, but the
icons are on two lines (the new look) rather than a single line (the way I
prefer them).

  Update:

I restored /usr/local/share/lyx/ui/* from last week's backup tape. Here
are the files:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 13816 2006-04-11 12:27 classic.ui
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1082 2006-04-11 12:27 default.ui
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 14596 2006-04-11 12:27 stdmenus.ui
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4729 2006-07-02 07:30 stdtoolbars.ui

The latest ones are in a tarball. I think that the new classic.ui is 14K.
Regardless, this weekend I'll diff all four files with the new ones and
identify the differences.

When I killed lyx-1.4.2 and re-invoked it with the 1.4.1 ui files, it
returned the toolbar to the single line. Perhaps it is the size of the
icons; I don't know now.
