More specifically (on Mac), open Terminal.app (in /Applications/Utilities/), and type: /Applications/LyX.app/Contents/MacOS/lyx -dbg action (assuming you have LyX.app in your /Applications directory, which it should be for Skim to work). A new instance of LyX will open, so make sure you've quit LyX before doing this. BH
