When you record a program, it is important to use the 'AUX' or 'Line' input, not the MIC input, as the levels are radically different.
Sorry I was wrong about the AUX jack. I was really trying to say you don't use it for the ear, as though it were a line-out vs a line-in. So, ear, aux, rem. And for the black & grey cable, it's the black one that goes in ear.
