Just for reference, Anne is not the one that originated the repair after each install. That comes straight out of apple documents, and while I agree it's extreme overkill, as mentioned, it won't hurt anything, and actually perhaps may prevent problems. But with that said, I think I've run repair permissions maybe twice on my 2005 ppc mac mini, and it's still working just fine, so there's definitely two sides to the issue, and honestly, neither one is wrong, it's just all what you're used to. If the machine is slowing down, a repair permissions may help. It may not help too, but at east it's something to try.
