Anyone know if you can hook it up to your Windoze computer (despite the fact that IEE1391 doesn't have support for power-over-firewire)? If it's a Firewire HD it ought to hook up to any computer which has driver support. If Apple *doesn't* make Windoze support for the iPod it'll be a project that flops. It's cool, it's tiny, it's neat, but it's not got a wide appeal (at that price). If you can *only* use it with a Mac, and *only* with a newer Mac at that (1999 consumer or desktop Mac with Firewire) (so long all ye iMac Rev A, B, C and D users) that's a pretty small market for a device which already targets only a subset of the music device market -- I imagine they're hoping that it'll be cool enough to lure neophytes or Windoze users to the Mac. I expect they'd get a bigger bang for their buck if they actively went after the Windoze market that's NINE times larger than the Mac one. It's not at a price-point that a whole lot of Mac users are going to go out and buy one simply because it works with Mac, and, I suspect it'll force other MP3 player manufacturers to go out and up the bar on their own storage capabilities thereby reducing the iPods advantage (especially as it's (might be... gotta find out) handicapped (1/10th the market) by being Mac only). Of course, in all of this, their ultimate goal is to be as profitable as possible so I'm sure they'll have thought things through but Apple doesn't exactly have a track record of smart business decisions and marketing (the Newton & clones come to mind ;). But, in recent years they've been better (& more profitable) so who knows? BTW can you use it as a normal HD? If so, then it's a useful device. If not, I'm sure a comparable and *much* cheaper MP3 player will come along in the near future (1 gig is more than enough storage for an MP3 player whose only function is to play MP3s... your battery will die many times over before you've played 1 gig of files).
